Scottish Conservatives welcome decision to keep Museum on the Mound Open.

Rachael Hamilton MSP, Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Culture & Tourism, and Miles Briggs, MSP for Lothian, have this morning warmly welcomed the news that Lloyds Banking Group has announced it is reversing its plan to close the Museum on the Mound at Bank of Scotland’s HQ in Edinburgh and will instead keep the centre open. Both Rachael and Miles made representations to Lloyds Banking Group following its earlier decision to close the museum.

Speaking today Rachael Hamilton MSP, Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Culture and Tourism, said:

“ I am pleased that Lloyds Banking Group have decided to reverse their decision to close the Museum on the Mound

“ The Museum on the Mound is a fantastic education facility and is a valuable part of the local community.

“ It’s great news for future students who will benefit from their visit to the museum in the future.”

Miles Briggs MSP said:

“ I am delighted that Lloyds Banking Group have listened to the representations made by MSPs and members of the public and have decided to keep the Museum on the Mound open.

“ Banking is an intrinsic part of both Edinburgh’s history and the present economy of the city and wider region, and the Museum on the Mound is an important collection that is also a very valuable educational facility.

“ This news is a welcome boost to Edinburgh’s world class and diverse museums sector. I hope the Museum on the Mound remains a key part of the city’s tourism offering as we go forward and attracts many more visitors in the years ahead.”
