Briggs presses Scottish Government on St John’s Children’s ward closure in Parliament.

Miles Briggs, Scottish Conservative MSP for Lothian, is continuing to press the Scottish Government on the future of the children’s ward at St John’s Hospital in Livingston through a series of written Parliamentary questions. Miles tabled the Parliamentary questions after Health Secretary Shona Robison failed to give any firm details on when the ward would reopen to inpatients when answering a Topical Question on the subject from Lothian Green MSP Alison Johnstone.

Speaking today Miles said:

“ Shona Robison’s answers in Parliament today will have disappointed parents and campaigners who are understandably looking for decisive action from the Scottish Government and a firm guarantee on when the children’s ward will reopen to inpatients and how the Scottish Government will ensure that we are not faced with a repeat of this unacceptable situation in future years.

“ Ministers need to understand the level of anger and frustration among West Lothian families and residents at the closure of the children’s ward to inpatients for the fourth time in just five years.

“ I will continue to press the Scottish Government on this matter and call on them to support NHS Lothian as it seeks to recruit the staff required so that inpatient paediatric services are permanently available at St John’s Hospital in Livingston.”
