Aldi festive food donations in Lothian

Lothian MSP, Miles Briggs, has welcomed an initiative from Aldi to donate fresh food to local charities over the Christmas period and has encouraged other supermarkets to follow suit.

There are 12 Aldi stores across Lothian and they will close at 6pm on Christmas Eve until Thursday the 27th December.

Interested parties should contact before Sunday 18th November.

Aldi estimates that around 20-30 crates of leftover food will be given away at  each store.

Last year, Aldi donated 500,000 meals from over 300 participating stores nationwide.

Miles Briggs, Scottish Conservative Lothian MSP, said:

“This is an outstanding initiative that will really help people who are struggling over the winter period.

“In Scotland and across the UK there is far too much food waste and Aldi’s charitable donation is doing something to tackle this issue.

“There are many charities across Lothian who could benefit hugely from the Christmas eve donation and I strongly recommend that they apply.

“I hope other supermarkets in Lothian see all the positives of a food donation over Christmas and follow the lead of Aldi.”
