Briggs Welcomes £2.2 Million Investment for Research in Mental Health

Scientists in Edinburgh have been awarded £2.2m to undertake a pioneering big data project to better understand mental health.

The £2.2 million will be directed towards new research into understanding mental health conditions such as depression.

The new research will take a different approach to understanding mental health based on big data, drawing meaningful insights from vast amounts of information.

One in four people in the UK will experience a mental health issue in a given year.

Miles Briggs comments:

“I full heartedly welcome this new research into mental health conditions and how better to understand them.

“Mental health is something that can affect all of us, so the more we know about it the better.

“The University of Edinburgh is a world leading research university and this is another example of the exceptional research that they carry out.

“I thank the Medical Research Council Data Pathfinder Award and the University of Edinburgh for supporting this research.
