Tofino to Fife

Edinburgh based couple Matthew Waterston and Hannah Melville have raised almost £25,000 in support of St Columba’s Hospice, Alzheimer Scotland and Macmillan Cancer Support.

The couple cycled the equivalent of the width of Canada, 6,400 km, in 36 days and ran the length of Scotland, 290 km, in one week.

The Tofino to Fife challenge was undertaken in memory of Matthew’s parents, Andrea, who was from Canada and who had skin cancer, and William, who had Parkinson’s and dementia.

Yesterday, Sunday, the couple completed the challenge in St. Andrews (photo attached), where Matthew’s father William was from.

People can still donate to support these three great charities (link).

Matthew Waterston, said:

“Tofino to Fife....completed!!

“A journey of a lifetime in memory of two very special parents.

“We are just so grateful for all the support from near and far, we genuinely couldn’t have completed this without it. HERE WE GO!!!

ENDs…

Miles Briggs, Scottish Conservative Lothian MSP, said:

“This is a tremendous achievement by Matthew and Hannah and the money raised will support these three great charities, that make a real difference to the lives of the people they are caring for.”

ENDs…

That the Parliament commends Matthew Waterston and Hannah Melville on completing their challenge, Tofino to Fife, to raise funds for St Columba’s Hospice, Alzheimer Scotland and Macmillan Cancer Support; understands that the Edinburgh-based couple cycled the equivalent of the width of Canada, 6,400 km, in 36 days and ran the length of Scotland, 290 km, in one week; acknowledges that they took up the challenge in memory of Matthew’s parents, Andrea, who was from Canada and who had skin cancer, and William, who had Parkinson’s and dementia, and congratulates Matthew and Hannah on so far raising almost £25,000 in support of these three great charities, exceeding their £20,000 target.
